XIV SINGING COMPETITION 2011
 Martin Garvie Trophy

                                                               Buenos Aires, August 18th ,2011

Dear  Head of Member School:

ESU Argentina invites all member schools to send a student representative to the 14th Singing Competition to be held at the British Arts Centre, Suipacha 1333., on Thursday 6th October at 1300.

Each school is invited  to send one Argentine born representative aged between 16 and 18 to the competition. No participant can represent their school more than once. The participant will have to prepare two songs in English, each one not exceeding three minutes in total. The choice of song is entirely free. All the competitors will sing one of their songs and the judges will invite the five with the highest scores to sing their second song. The winner will be judged on both songs presented.

There will be a piano and a microphone system available for those who wish to use it. The singer may be accompanied, live, by any one instrument such as piano, keyboard or guitar. Amplification equipment will be available for recorded accompaniment on cassette and/or the more recommendable CD which should be prepared containing only the two tracks required.

The competitor should arrive at the Auditorium by 11.00 for a trial of equipment. School uniform may not be worn. Guests, parents and teachers should arrive at 12.15. Once we know how many schools are participating we will let you know how many guests we can fit in.

Please send the enclosed enrollment form A by e-mail before Thursday 1st September. The program will be drawn up on the basis of the information given on the second form B, which has a deadline of Friday 16th   September. No changes may be made after this date.

The judges will be using specific criteria to assess the singers. The winner will have demonstrated a high level of skill in the following areas: vocal technique; musical notes and rhythm; expression; interpretation; musical ability and stage presence.

Thank you for helping to promote international understanding and friendship through the English language. ESU would also like to thank Cambridge International Examinations for sponsoring the competition, and the British Arts Centre, BAC-AACI for allowing us to use their wonderful premises.

Yours sincerely,

Malcolm James Rodman
ESU Chairman
